Every morning when I go through all the celebrity film from the night before, there’s always a look that I just know will be on every beauty blog that day. Today’s look: The mermaid-y green eyeshadow Miley Cyrus wore to the Fashion Group International Night of Stars.
It was a really delicate gray-green that mirrored the color of her metallic dress but somehow didn’t look too girly or like a macaron was stuck to her eyelids.
Now, I figure this is going to get talked about a lot because 1) it’s different—not something we see a lot this time of year, and 2) Miley’s been doing a lot of quirky stuff lately, so watching what she does next has become a country-wide fascination in a lot of ways. But the reason I’d like to talk about it: It’s pretty. And if you want to copy it, I think mixing the two shades in the Nars duo South Pacific would be a close match.
You into the idea?
Wow, running around the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet was an adrenaline-packed affair. The frisson in the late-summer Brooklyn air was unmistakable as fans lined the block to scream adoringly at their favorite award-show attendees and performers. The fashion was diverse and as on-point as ever with trends running from zany to glamorous.
Another example of skintight done well, is of course, Miley Cyrus. She rocked her thoroughly ’90s devotion to baby björk raver buns, along with her leggings and long-sleeved belly top courtesy of the Dolce & Gabbana vintage vault. The all-black spandex outfit never once threatened to be boring since it was spangled in multicolored, quarter-sized jewels. The perfect accoutrement to all of this was, of course, her stuck-out tongue.
So, the performance we’ve all been hearing about/thinking about/eagerly awaiting just occurred: Miley Cyrus hit the stage as first time VMA performer. She emerged from a bear statue in a silver leotard that had a furry gray bodice with a bear face attached. The bear had a lot going on: it was winking and sticky its tongue out Miley-style. Like, can bears do either of those things? Prob not, but YOLO it’s the VMAs, y’all! There was a minor bear theme throughout the entire performance, JK MAY-JAH BEAR THEME. The dancers had huge bears on their backs and, somehow, still managed to twerk alongside Miley.
When we saw Miley earlier on the red carpet she was in a black, embellished crop top and pants (vintage Dolce & Gabbana, NBD) and her newly-tradmarked raver buns. She ditched the D&G, but the raver buns stayed, in a big way. They also stayed when she removed the furry leotard to reveal a NUDE, LATEX BIKINI and gyrated along Robin Thicke, who was no longer in his red carpet attire either, but in a striped suit with a black shirt.
It’s been a long road to Miley Cyrus’ highly-anticipated return to music, one that’s been filled with haircuts, style switchups, and more magazine covers than we can EVER keep track of. And while we’re always down to hash out each and every one of her predictably boundary-pushing outfits via Instagram and the red carpet, today the star is throwing us something a little different. Yep, a MUSIC VIDEO. Snoop Lion recruited Miley for his reggae-inflected track “Ashtrays and Heartbreaks,” which we first got a taste of back in April. Given the song title and mellow beats, it’s only fitting that the accompanying clip have a similar laid-back fashion vibe, as well.
The twosome are depicted mostly as reflections in various Los Angeles windows, each working their trademark clothing pieces in the cool color-washed visuals. For Snoop, this means his classic adidas tracksuit steez and tons of necklaces. He might be casual, but leave it to Miley to glam things up big time in crisp white-on-white, bright red lips, and massive hoop earrings. Say whatever you want about Miley and Snoop being music’s odd couple, but in this music video, (fashion) opposites really DO attract. See for yourself below!
The Billboard Awards might’ve clocked in at a whopping three hours, but between ALL the performances (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Jennifer Lopez, Selena Gomez!) tonight’s show flew by faster than you can say, “Wait, Shania Twain’s here?!” In addition to the, you know, music, we’re chalking at least a little bit of this up to all of the ridiculously awesome outfits from our faves. Miley showed us once again that you can never have too many jumpsuits in your closet, Selena had a total neon-a-thon in her gown, and Kelly Rowland proved that when it comes to fashion, sometimes silver really IS better than gold. See these ladies and more of tonight’s tops looks below!
We’ve seen Miley Cyrus wear a jumpsuit before (yes, many times…). We’ve seen Miley wear black and white before, too. Hey, we’ve EVEN seen Miley in a black and white jumpsuit before! But somehow, the singer still managed to make this tried-and-true look totally fresh tonight, flaunting a diamond-motif crochet onepiece by Balmain that straddles the line between formal and insanely cool. Topped off that swoopy platinum ‘do and a statement red lip, this is all the proof you need that summer 2013 basically belongs to Miley Ray Cyrus. Congrats girl, you’ve done it again!
Jumpsuits are a tricky garment for any lady to tackle, but Miley Cyrus’ attempts have certainly raised a few more eyebrows than those of her peers. Fortunately, the singer proved last night that’s she’s a pretty quick learner.
As the star attendee of the Maxim Hot 100 party (she earned this year’s top slot on the list), Miley dressed to impress in a sexy-yet-demure jumpsuit. The black and white number was a relatively streamlined look for the 20-year-old, but featured an oversized bow detail on the back — a very nice touch.
Let’s all give it up for Miley Cyrus, you guys! In between fanning Met Ball rumors and nabbing consecutive covers for ELLE UK and V magazines last week, the singer has managed to land herself the coveted #1 spot on Maxim’s Hot 100 list! Seriously, though, this is NO easy task. Each year the men’s publication pits hotties from the music, film, and fashion worlds against each other, and this time around, Miley (and her Smilers, obviously) stole 2012′s crown right out from under model Bar Rafaeli. Not that this pop star really needs to prove her hotness, or anything. I mean, can we all talk about this photo above?! Posted over the weekend, the image shows her channeling a Bond girl bombshell in a metallic gold swimsuit, tons of glimmering jewelry, and sultry, straight-on gaze. She may have been #68 on the list just last year, but Miley’s come a LONG way since then… that’s for sure.
While Miley’s past couple of mag appearances have seen her hair flipped up (think chic ski-jump), this time around she’s going for an extreme side part that reminds us of that ’60s style she rocked a few months back. It’s more subtle than the one she usually sports, but this slicked ‘do also allows the focus to naturally drift toward Miley’s smoky beauty look— defined brows, kohl-rimmed eyes, and nude lips— giving the entire shimmery spread a very ’70s glam appeal. Also, that tattoo not-so-secretly peeking out from the maillot’s cut-out side? We see you.
Let’s be honest: scoring the #1 spot as bonafide hottie provides for MAJOR bragging rights. And Miley herself was the one who tweeted the news out over the weekend! Well, along with some othernews:
@MileyCyrus: My 1st Instagram is dedicated to all my fans ❤ thank you for crowning me #1 Maxim Hot 100 http://instagram.com/p/Y5rzk0QzPn/
Yep, Miley has Instagram, y’all! Whether it’s posting photos of a blingy manicure, her dogs, and life on the PJ, she’s been ‘gramming up a storm over the past few days. Sigh. Will Met Ball pictures come later tonight? We’re betting yes. So click “Follow” now, and in the meantime, tell us what you think of her Maxim shoot!
Dudes, we can’t stop talking about the Met Gala. I mean, ever since we heard the theme was going to be “Punk: Chaos and Couture,” we knew it was going to be a particularly special year for us at the Metropolitan Museum. So far, we’ve heard that everyone from Jennifer Lawrence to Solange Knowles to Psy (!!!) are attending the fashion world’s fanciest event, but today we got word that the QUEEN of punk might also make an appearance come Monday—Miley Cyrus! Miley Online broke the news this afternoon, and we really, REALLY hope it’s true, y’all. I mean, have you guys seen the latest issue of V Magazine? She rocked three different hair colors on the cover alone. *bows down*
Miley’s style has already taken on a punky identity (she ‘s no stranger to studded-out leather jackets and skull-print rompers), so finding an ensemble for the occasion shouldn’t be too hard. We assume she’ll sport her signature platinum pixie cut in a punk Mohawk homage (like above!), so now it’s all about finding THE perfect dress. Since a lot of designers have already claimed their celeb date, we narrowed down Miley’s choices in into three main picks. The first one is a GORGE silver metallic off-the-shoulder gown from Jean-Paul Gaultier‘s Spring/Summer 2013 haute-couture show. The choker and super dark smoky eyes give it an edgy vibe—not to mention it’s made by a designer who once sent his models down the runway in sky-high Mohawks. For the second look, we decided to pick a super glam Atelier Versace Spring/Summer 2013 pinstripe suit with KILLER gold zipper detailing and metallic shoulder pads. If any can rock the heck out of a suit, it’s Miley. If she decides to go for something a little more girly, we thought this Dolce & Gabbana Autumn/Winter 2012 sheer lace dress would be PERFECT with the right studded accessories. What do you hope Miley wears to the Met Gala? Let us know in the comments below!
We suppose if we were celebrities, with unlimited access to anything we wanted to wear, we’d eventually get bored of the same old gowns and cocktail dresses.
Apparently, that’s what happened to Miley Cyrus, Rihanna and Amanda Seyfried, all of whom have recently forgone designers’ womenswear collections for something a little different: pieces literally borrowed from the boys.
This weekend, Cyrus tweeted a shot of herself in her signature crop top, sexy heels and a pair of men’s leather basketball shorts. “Girl in boys clothing,” she wrote.
Cyrus is hardly the first star to have shopped a designer’s menswear collection. Rihanna has been doing it for months, wearing an Acne suit in December. This weekend, she hit a Lakers game in a pair of heavy metal-embroidered sweatpants from Kokon To Zai (which she may or may not have borrowed from Kanye West).
But though we expect such gender-bending sartorial hijinks from fashion-forward stars like Cyrus and Rihanna, this trend has expanded to more conventional dressers like Seyfried, who flew back from Paris Fashion Week in a cozy-looking religious motif sweatshirt from Givenchy’s Spring 2013 menswear collection.
We’re big fans of boyfriend jeans, so maybe this is just the logical evolution of guy-inspired style. But we want to know: Do you like these stars’ menswear looks?
